Terrain

We are on groomed dirt trails and some board walks for most of the route. Trail is very flat. We are expecting the spring mud!

camping 31

Edward L. Conservation is 565 acres, with over half dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve, which gives it even extra protection for the nearly 600 species of flowering plants and more than 150 species of birds. Two rare ecosystems, flatwoods and a floodplain forest can be found here. Our trail takes us along the Des Plaines River and into the heavily wooded forest as we watch for the wildflowers & listen for the migrating birds. Because this forest is in a floodplain, the spring rains often bring muddy trails. Please be prepared with waterproof boots. Our hike will be level, and a little over 3 miles.

Washroom

There are flush toilets in the Welcome Center

Discussion Starter Question

We don’t realize that the Southern Flying Squirrel is living in our local forests because they are nocturnal.

What else do you think happens around you all the time without you realizing it?
