Stillman Nature Center
What to Expect: Stillman Nature Center is a private nonprofit education center covering 80 acres of woods, lake, and prairie. It's a great spot for birds, and you'll hear them all around. The walk is about 2 miles along trails featuring spring flowers and migrating birds and ducks returning to Illinois. We will finish by visiting rescued birds of prey for educational purposes. Mary Spreyer, a bird of prey expert, will join us to share insights about the birds at Stillman. You can expect to see a peregrine falcon, broad-winged hawk, red-shouldered hawk, and a turkey vulture. The owls include great horned, eastern, barred, barn, and snowy owl. We have the special priviledge of having private use of the grounds while we are here.
Carpooling is advised if possible!
During the hike, there will be a 15-minute part of the trail that is a silent walk, so that each person can more fully appreciate the sounds of nature.
